Summer Calendar
Camp sessions begin June 29, 2009 and end August 14, 2009, with a two-week minimum commitment. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM.

Campers will enjoy the summer days at: (Note: Campers will travel by Chartered buses owned and operated by Academy Bus Company. The campers will be supervised by: Camp Director, Aquatic Director, Health Director, and all Counselors.)

Bear Mountain State Park: Off Route 9W- Exit 19 Palisades Interstate Parkway
Throughout the duration of the camp, campers will enjoy the wonderful summer days at the Bear Mountain State Park. Here, they will participate in swimming, arts & crafts and physical activities such as baseball, soccer and many others. The campers will fall in love with the beautiful scenery of the state park as it has a serene lake, enclosed picnic areas and sprawling mountains. Campers will get in touch with nature and discover the beauty of the great outdoors. The natural wildlife, teamwork building will allow the campers to learn and grow in the great outdoors.

Bodies: 11 FULTON ST. NEW YORK, NY 10038
BODIES are exhibits that will help the campers have a greater understanding of the human body. At BODIES the campers will explore the body. Campers will learn about the different systems within the body; for example the respiratory system, circulatory system, nervous system etc.

Community Service (Location TBD)
Campers will participate in activities such as park clean up day, younger campers will read a story or participate in arts & crafts activities at a local senior citizen home. Based on approval older campers will visit the children’s hospital of Westchester and engage a child in an arts & craft activity.

Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum: 2 East 91st Street New York, NY 10128
The Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum is a museum where the campers will learn to think like designers and also view many of the exhibitions. The campers would then use this skill to create and use their imagination for their own design.

Family day BBQ (Bear Mountain)
The family day BBQ is an event that occurs on the last day of camp. The campers and their families will enjoy spending time together. There will be food, activities, swimming, and sports activities. This event is a fun and good way to say goodbye to each other and to enjoy the last day of camp.

Intrepid Pier 86, W 46th St and 12th Ave New York, NY 10036-4103
The intrepid is a museum where the campers will learn about the military. They will learn about air war fare, naval war fare, about space, and about life in the military, as being a pilot sailor, or astronaut.

International Center of Photography 1133 Avenue of the Americas at 43rd Street, New York, NY 10036
Campers will participate in designed tours and workshops to explain the ideas, techniques, and aesthetics of its exhibitions. Campers will develop their visual literacy skills as well as expand their knowledge of photography.

Liberty Science Center: 222 Jersey City Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ
Campers will experience hands on science at the reinvented Liberty Science Center which is different in almost every way, from its unique approach to engaging people in real science, to its goal of positively influencing communities and society to take action to improve our world. From hands on lab demonstrations to personal interaction with exhibits, the museum will open a whole new world of scientific investigation for the campers. With programs aimed at nearly every age group, each camper will be amazed by the scientific discoveries they make during the trip; some may even be inspired to become scientists.

MTA Transit Museum: 130 Livingston Street, Brooklyn NY
The New York Transit Museum is one of the city’s leading cultural institutions and the largest museum in the United States devoted to urban public transportation history. Campers will learn about the development of the greater New York Metropolitan region through the presentation of tours, educational programs, and workshops dealing with the cultural, social, and technological history of public transportation.

MOBIA: 1865 Broadway at 61st Street New York, NY 10023-7505
Campers will be encouraged to utilize creative thinking with the goal of gaining awareness in the visual arts. Please see the attached vocabulary. The campers will be able to take pictures of anything that they see or like. Once they are done they will choose the picture they liked the best. The campers will get to see and feel how to be a photographer.

Museum of Moving Images: 35 Avenue at 37 Street Astoria, NY 11106
The Museum of Moving Images will help the campers understand the art, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital media. Moreover, the campers will participate in hands-on activities.

Rainy Day Movies
If a trip is cancelled due to the weather, campers will watch age appropriate movies at a local theater such as New Roc City 33 LeCount Place, New Rochelle, NY 10801or the Cross County Cinemas 2 South Drive Yonkers NY.

Saxon Woods: Mamaroneck Avenue White Plains, NY
At Saxon Woods the campers will enjoy the pool and other recreational activities. Not only will the campers swim and play sports but they will also do arts and crafts.

Smithsonian’s Indian Museum: 1 Bowling Green, New York, NY
Campers will visit this museum dedicated solely to the preservation and exhibition of the Indian culture. They will get a look into the culture of Indians who inhabited the country before the settlers arrived. The campers will learn all about how the Indians lived and worked as they are led on a tour around the museum by one of the staff.

Splish Splash 2549 Splish Splash Drive Calverton, NY 11933
Splish Splash has 96 exciting acres of aquatic activities. Campers will enjoy the rides and have a great time.

Sports Museum of America 26 Broadway, New York, NY 10004
Campers will explore the history of sports in our culture with 21st-century interactive exhibits that engage and excite the campers. Campers will discover the way sports influence the movies we watch, the fashion we wear, the catch-phrases we use in daily life. Moreover, campers experience team-work at its best.

The Science Barge (Located on the Hudson River in Downtown Yonkers NY)
The Science Barge is a floating farm and environmental education center. The Science Barge grows tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce while releasing no pollutants into the atmosphere. The campers will learn all about ecologically friendly farming practices, and how to create renewable energy. The fun filled educational day, complete with hands on science activities will allow the children to explore ecologically friendly practices and they learn how to care for plants on their own.

The Sylvia Center (TSC): 34 Fischer Road Exts Kinderhook, NY 12106
TSC is an organic farm in New York’s Hudson Valley where Growing Minds campers will explore the vegetable beds and greenhouse. Campers enjoy hands-on experiences that promote healthy eating; for example, campers will prepare an organically delicious farm-fresh meal and bring recipes home to make with their families.

The Sylvia Center curriculum is strongly focused on nutrition and wellness and has a significant connection to New York State academic performance standards for Health and Physical Education, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts.

Wilson Woods: East Lincoln Avenue, Mount Vernon
Wilson Woods is a 23 acre park located in Mt. Vernon, New York. At Wilson Woods the campers will enjoy the new mini water park. There is a 18 ft water slide, a wave pool, and a water playground. Not only are the campers enjoying the water park they will participate in other recreational free play.

TADA
TADA is a youth theatre where kids perform different shows. The campers will watch one of the shows that would hopefully encourage them to act out their very own play.

TADA (Week Long Program at our facility if location changes parents and DOH will be notified)
The campers will learn the elements of musical theater production. TADA professional acting instructors will help campers create their own performance as well as design all props.
